Private pilot - Helicopter add on

This course is for the student who holds a Private Pilot Certificate with an Airplane rating and wishes to add a Helicopter rating to that certificate. A Private Pilot Certificate allows the holder to fly passengers but the holder can not be paid for flying. This certificate is used mainly by people who wish to fly a personal helicopter for pleasure or as a business tool. It is also the first step towards obtaining Commercial or Instructor certification.

Students entering a private to private add-on must have an FAA private Pilot Certificate and a valid third class medical certificate from a FAA approved Physician.

This course generally runs approximately eight weeks.

FAA minimum requirements

  1. Hold an FAA third class medical certificate
  2. Obtain a minimum of 30 hours flight time, including:
    1. 20 hours minimum dual flight training
    2. 10 hours minimum solo flight training
  3. Pass an FAA oral and flight test
